Dear friends...
Forgive me for not updating the blog lately... at all. Some VERY exciting things have been happening! First of all, we have some new sponsors: James McHone Jewelry and Moxie! You may have seen their logos on the shirts we have been sporting around campus...
Over the past week and a half there has been a promotion in Mr. Chips and Jemmy's for students to donate DINING DOLLARS to buy food for the hungry! If you go and buy something from the store (needs to be non-perishable) and put it in the box for donations, that food will go directly to the Blue Ridge Food Bank! And even MORE exciting is that if you buy it at Mr. Chips today or tomorrow, that food will be MATCHED by the store manager! So any food that you buy will be doubled! But that promotion ends Friday morning...
Look for us on the Commons between 11-2 on Thursday and Friday! Also, please come to D-HALL THURSDAY night- it will essentially be Drive For 25 Night! We will have sign-ups for competitions, shirts hanging throughout, and the Street Team has the privilege of serving everyone that comes. So you not only get some great grilled cheese, you get to help the Drive for 25 out! Bring your friends!
We have arrived at an estimated schedule of events... get pumped! Here's how the 25 hours will look:
4 pm (Fri) - exciting kick-off!
6 pm- 3 pt. shooting contest (preliminary)
8 pm- Knock-out competition (prelim)
10 pm- 3 pt. shooting contest (prelim)
12 am (Sat) - Knock-out competition (prelim) and Half-Court Shot
2 am - 3 pt. shooting contest (prelim) and P-I-G-S (like H-O-R-S-E)
4 am - Knock-out competition (prelim)
6 am - Raffle
8 am - Raffle and Half-Court Shot
10 am - Shooting Stars competition (pair of shooters have 1 min. to make as many points as possible!)
12 pm - 3 pt. shooting contest (championship)
2 pm - Knock-out competition (championship), Dunk Contest
That may look very confusing, but it's really just a fun schedule of events for a REALLY fun day/night/day! Here are some more details:
3 pt. Shooting Contest (Pre- 6pm, 10pm, 2am; Championship: 12pm): each player will have 1 minute to take 10 shots. The top 2 from each preliminary round advance to the championship at Noon on Saturday!
Knock-Out Competition (Pre- 8pm, 12am, 4am; Championship: 2pm): as many players as possible line-up at the free throw line with 2 basketballs. The first person shoots until he makes it, but if they miss and the second person makes it before they do, the first person is out. This continues until you are left with one winner. The top 3 from each preliminary round advance to the championship at 2 pm on Saturday!
Shooting Stars (10 AM): a pair of shooters will have 1 minute to make as many shots as possible from four different spots on the court. Each spot has a different point value, with the closer ones being less and the further spots being worth more. The teammates with the highest score win!
P-I-G-S (2 AM): just like HORSE, 5 shooters will compete against each other with trick shots or just straight-up jump-shots. With each missed shot, a player collects a letter. The last person 'standing' (without letters) wins!
Half-Court Shot (12 AM and 8 AM): for $1 you will get an opportunity to shoot a half-court shot. The first two people to make it will each get a sweet prize!
Dunk Contest (2 PM): You don't need to be told what this is... each dunker will get 2 dunks and 3 opportunities to make each of his dunks. Judges will be selected from the crowd. The winner gets a sick prize.
Raffle: prizes that will be raffled include the opportunity to play one-on-one against a JMU Men's Player and a jersey!
Each of the contests will cost $2 to enter (with the exception of the half-court, which is only $1 per shot). People can sign-up Thursday or Friday on the Commons, Thursday night at D-Hall, or anytime BEFORE the start of the competition during the event! You can pay with Cash before the event or cash or FLEX at the event.
Prizes range from $5 gift cards to Best Buy and Wal-Mart to $20 Gift Cards to Dicks Sporting Goods! Complimentary jerseys will also be awarded to the winners of the championships. Tell all your friends! We're looking to raise as much money as possible for the kids...
So donate Dining Dollars at Mr. Chips! Come play in some of the competitions and compete for sweet prizes! And donate money, for 100% of it goes to the children...
I look forward to seeing you there! Get PUMPED!
For Christ's glory...

Players Players Players!
Dear friends...
Sorry it's been so long since I posted an update! Things are ROCKING and ROLLING with the Drive For 25! We've been so blessed and I'm stoked to see how things are coming along... but we still need players!
We haven't made clear exactly who can/can't play, but we want to remind everyone that LADIES are encouraged to raise support and play, as well! For those who might be unsure about playing with the guys, we'll be setting aside a specific time for the ladies to play against each other. So please, if you're interested, send us an e-mail at thedrivefor25@gmail.com!
Send an e-mail ASAP and we'll get your name down! We still have quite a few to fill, so tell your friends, but they are also filling up fast!
That is all for now. Have a wonderful rest of your week!

Players!
Hey friends! Luke Sjogren checking in...
We have had SUCH an exciting week in planning for The Drive For 25! JMU Men's Basketball Coach Matt Brady is the MAN and has helped to hook us up with some SWEET prizes for those players who raise the most money, including: JMU Men's Basketball Apparel, being taken out to lunch by Coach Brady and Coach Brooks, and tickets to a Wizards game! But remember- in order to win these prizes, you need to play and RAISE MONEY!
Right now our greatest concern is getting players. We're looking for at least 50 ball players who can commit to being here in Harrisonburg for 10 hours between 4 pm Friday April 16 and 5 pm Saturday April 17. Each player needs to commit to not only being able to play for that long (they will be subbing in and out over that period) but also to commit to raising $250 in sponsorships. Yes- we're college students and that is a lot of money, but it IS possible! Watch the video below!
And don't be afraid to ask anyone and everyone- people love to give! I have talked with a few people already and they are excited... It's for a fantastic cause, and 100% of the money goes to the kids...
Are you interested in playing? Please send us an e-mail at thedrivefor25@gmail.com and we'll get you rolling on support-raising!
I hope you all are getting as excited as I am! Remember- it's going to take more than one day to change the world...

The Beginning
Dear friends,
We are planning and organizing a charity basketball game in mid-April to benefit children in Mozambique, Africa and children at the Boys and Girls Club here in Harrisonburg, VA. The main way we hope to raise money is by sponsorships, both personal and corporate. Our goal is to gather 50 athletes to play basketball from 4 pm, April 16, until 5 pm, April 17, 2010. Why 25 hours? Because we understand that it's going to take more than one day to change the world.
Each team will represent one of the beneficiaries and will consist of 25 players. Our plan is for no athlete to have to play more than 5 hours of basketball total. Our purpose of this game is to raise awareness for and bless the children of Africa and Harrisonburg, but we also hope to inspire others to follow our lead and support in their own way. We realize that it's not only going to take more than one day but also more than one group to change the world, so we would love it if you would consider joining alongside of us in impacting the world, locally and globally, for the better.
For more information, please feel free to e-mail us at thedrivefor25@gmail.com.
Thanks for checking out our blog! We'll be posting things through the next weeks in preparation for this game... only 7 weeks and 5 days! Have a wonderful Sunday...
